We are delighted to present for sale ‘part ii’ of the pohl-ströher collection of portrait miniatures, which is widely celebrated as being among the greatest collections of its type ever assembled. The sale includes a wonderful variety of works that span four centuries (the sixteenth to the nineteenth) and includes superb and rare works by many of the greatest painters of the austrian, french, german, british, russian and swiss schools.
A full biography is included for every known miniaturist represented in the collection. Each miniature is catalogued with a physical description, an illustration at actual size, and a discussion that whenever possible includes information about the subject of the portrait.
